Laurie Johnson

Laurie A. Johnson is Principal of Laurie Johnson Consulting and a senior science advisor to Lexington/Chartis Insurance. She has over 20 years of experience in urban planning, risk management, and disaster recovery management, and studied most of the world’s recent major urban disasters. In 2006, she was a lead author of the recovery plan for the City of New Orleans and coauthored the book, Clear as Mud: Planning for the Rebuilding of New Orleans. She was a contributor to the USGS 2008 Shakeout scenario for M7.8 striking southern California, and also a coauthor of the Policy section of the USGS ARkStorm scenario. Laurie completed her Doctorate degree at Kyoto University, Japan in March 2009. She also has a Master of Urban Planning and a B.S. in Geophysics, both from Texas A&M University. She is on the Steering Committee for GEER – Geotechnical Extreme Event Reconnaissance, and also on the Board of Directors of the Public Entity Risk Institute and the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, American Planning Association, and Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.
